The type of a dragon serves to indicate how the dragon was obtained and if it belongs to a larger family of dragons of the same type and aesthetic. Not all dragons have a type. This is only reserved for dragons that are obtained through unique ways, such as Collections and Brawl. Collections require you to gather items from Toothless Explorations (or Johann's Ship) to complete the collection. Rising through the Arenas in Brawl unlocks certain dragons that can drop from Token Packs. The different dragon types are:

• Defender Dragons: Available mostly through Collections in the Defender & Exotic tab but may also drop from Card Packs. You can own more than one of these Dragons. These Dragons have better performance in Defend Berk battles compared to their normal counterpart.
• Exotic Dragons: Available through Collections in the Defender & Exotic tab. You can own more than one of these Dragons. These Dragons have a unique look compared to their normal counterpart but don't change their appearance when reaching Titan level.
• Brute Dragons: Available through Collections in the Legendary & Minion tab once the Green Death is obtained. You can own more than one of these Dragons. These Dragons don't change their appearance when reaching Titan level.
• Seedling Dragons: Available through Collections in the Legendary & Minion tab once the Foreverwing is obtained. You can own more than one of these Dragons. These Dragons don't change their appearance when reaching Titan level.
• Primal Dragons: Available through Collections in the Legendary & Minion tab once the Bewilderbeast is obtained. You can own more than one of these Dragons. These Dragons don't change their appearance when reaching Titan level.
• Exiled Dragons: Available through Collections in the Legendary & Minion tab once the Screaming Death is obtained. You can own more than one of these Dragons. These Dragons don't change their appearance when reaching Titan level.
• Liberated Dragons: Available through Collections in the Legendary & Minion tab once Drago's Bewilderbeast is obtained. You can own more than one of these Dragons. These Dragons don't change their appearance when reaching Titan level.
• Marooned Dragons: Available through Collections in the Legendary & Minion tab once the Purple Death is obtained. You can own more than one of these Dragons. These Dragons don't change their appearance when reaching Titan level.
• Grim Dragons: Available through Collections in the Legendary & Minion tab once the Shellfire is obtained. You can own more than one of these Dragons. These Dragons don't change their appearance when reaching Titan level.
