Parents can take advantage of multiple features on Apple iOS in order to prevent unwanted purchases while also giving their child the freedom to request a purchase to their parents. These management features protect parents and children while encouraging positive digital habits.

If you are on an Apple device, Family Sharing allows you to create a group for your family which can be easily managed. When Family Sharing is set up, the family organizer can turn on Ask to Buy. So when your child wants to make an eligible purchase such as buying an in-app purchase, they send you a request. You can use your own device to view information about the app and decide to approve or decline the request. You can find more information about this here: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/105055

Note that you may also use Family Sharing to turn off in-app purchases altogether under Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > iTunes & App Store Purchases > In-app Purchases.

If you do not wish to use Family Sharing, you may also set up Purchase Authorization. Purchase Authorization requires a password to be entered for every purchase or set time period. You can learn more about this here: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/119848

To quickly set up Purchase Authorization, on your device open Settings > Tap (your name) > Tap Media & Purchases > Tap Password Settings > Choose the setting that you want for purchase authorization.
